My Life with the Walter Boys- Season 3 (review)

We return to Colorado for a third season of the teen romcom.
George recovers from his stroke. Jackie and Cole start a relationship. Individually, Jackie starts a new project opening a community space and Cole starts drag racing. Alex continues to struggle to fit in with the rodeo crowd, while playing third wheel to Kiley and Dylan. Danny and Erin get engaged. George’s van life sister Hannah, the mother of Lee and Isaac, turns up after abandoning the family. Richard and Tara begin a relationship.
The season doesn’t get off to a great start as the first episode is mainly one character asking another character if they are OK and Cole and Jackie act really immature and childish upon starting their relationship, though this can be excused as a representation of first teen love.
Alex’s storyline this season feels like a rehash of last season in which he clashes with the rodeo boys, as opposed to giving him a fresh story, although this does kind of shift towards him realising he has romantic feelings for Kiley.
The arrival of Hannah proposes a new storyline that involves Lee and Isaac, who had previously not featured regularly. However, she departs after struggling to be a stable parent for her sons, leaving this story feeling slightly wasted as it concludes in the same way that it started.
Inevitably, Jackie and Cole’s relationship runs into trouble; Cole breaks up with Jackie as he feels that he is no good for her and is holding her back from living a successful life that she is destined to achieve after being told so by Richard and his teen assistant Eliot, who was also Jackie’s childhood friend. But in true Cole fashion, he does this by pretending to have lost interest in her, breaking her heart and pushing her towards Eliot. Once again, Noah LaLonde is the standout actor for portraying such silent heartbreak with pain in his eyes.
It feels disappointing that Will and Nathan don’t have their own storylines this season as the series excels by telling the stories of several of the Walter boys, though they are two of the less interesting brothers.
The season ends with Jackie kissing Eliot as Cole is involved in a car crash on his way to win her back. It feels somewhat unresolved as Jackie never finds out the real reason that Cole broke up with her and Alex doesn’t get to tell Kiley how he really feels.
This season takes a slight dip in comparison to the previous, but still continues on with telling an emotional and entertaining story.
