Kasabian- Act III (review)

Kasabian return with the third act of their Pizzorno era.

The album starts off strong with Soulmate and its eerie sounds and fun lyrics. The four singles then proceed; Hippie Sunshine features a chanting chorus and playful keys, Superpowers enacts funk and Great Pretender sounds indie, but Nothing Better Than This is the highlight as a high-energy electro rock song. Silver Apple Eyes starts off with disco vibes, yet turns into a tropical song with powerful vocals and string sounds, while The Guru and the Crypto Time Machine is as intriguing as its name suggests. A truly experimental and innovative piece, its chime sounds and Middle Eastern influence creates a magical or perhaps dark fantasy world that will leave you feeling like you’re on a mad trip down the rabbit hole. It can’t be helped thinking that this track would have benefitted even more from a lengthier runtime to explore its creation further. Glide starts off based upon acoustic guitar, but progresses into a piano track reminiscent of Robbie Williams’ Feel. Hyper//Rising goes hard with its guitar heavy riffs and basslines, before Say Now (Closer) brings the album to a finish with a nice reduction in pace.

Kasabian always deliver a perfect mix of guitar and drums with elements of synth and piano to create their own unique alternative rock sound and never fail to provide clean and well-rounded production.

The Pizzorno era is still going strong.
