Chase & Status- Generic Everything (review)
Published by Mason Oldridge, 9 October 2026
The drum and bass duo maintain their new sound on this new release.

Chase & Status continue to produce bassline-heavy DnB with R&B guest vocals, incorporating Deeprot influences consisting of wob and airhorn sound effects, which brings elements of this independent electronic music scene to the mainstream.
Lead single Disgruntled features grinding guitar and Essa Ta Quente incorporates Latin music, whereas Juggin is built around an epic riff and Levels utilises a funky beat. Influence leans into house music with piano, while Gone Too Far feels like stepping back in time as, opening with acoustic guitar, the track soon becomes highly reminiscent of the pair’s lighter earlier work.
All 10 tracks are collaborations with other artists, pulling out big R&B names such as J Hus and Little Simz as featuring vocalists as well as also co-producing with dubstep giant Skrillex on one song.
Generic Everything feels like a natural progression from their previous era and so it is unfortunate that 2 Ruff Vol 1 was only released as a mixtape and not their predecessor album. It is a disservice to singles such as Baddadan, Liquor & Cigarettes and Selecta as well as prior single Disconnect and subsequent single Backbone.
Chase & Status build upon their reinvention of themselves and, while this isn’t their best work, it certainly sits in the better half and sees them retain their title as well-established legends of drum and bass.
